Two cities. Two sounds. One night in the museum
The nights of Amsterdam and London meet during ADE at the Van Gogh Museum. Experience an evening full of music and art, inspired by the night paintings that James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) created in London, and the exhibition Whistler: Dandy and Maverick at the Van Gogh Museum.

Devon Rexi
Devon Rexi is an Amsterdam-based band with a distinctive sound that creates playful, experimental music with influences from dub. Distorted Farsi vocals, layered drum patterns, otherworldly sounds, and driving bass lines create a sound that seems to exist somewhere between two worlds.

Coby Sey
Coby Sey is a songwriter, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ. After years of being active in the DIY scene of South East London, he developed a sound and style all his own as an artist and performer. He combines live instrumentation, samples, and experimentation with recognizable influences from hip-hop, noise, jazz, and grime, which he brings together in an alienating, dub-tinged sound. Additionally, he has a monthly show on NTS Radio.

In his performance, Coby admires the artistic value of James McNeill Whistler’s paintings, but at the same time raises critical questions about Whistler as a person, his views on race, and the significance of his work today. In that sense, his performance goes against Whistler’s own conviction that art can be made purely for art’s sake.
