KB_ Presents: Kuntari (ID) + Sahara Grim (US) + Saturno Santos’ Something + Brigadera || Sofaya Soundsystem [DJ]

12 June - OCCII, Amsterdam
20.00 - €8.50

For a night of explosive rhythm and song, they pair Indonesian relentless duo KUNTARI and their very own anti-pop ensemble SSS, along with the  eclectic and unconventional songwriting of Brigadera and Sahara Grim (for her Amsterdam debut!). Sofaya Soundsystem will close the night with a DJ set delving into historical bangers of South African maskandi, kwaito, gqom, and more.

Named their genre as Primal-core, KUNTARI experimented with primitive voices producing animal mating calls mixed with a tons variation of Indonesian tribal rhythms. The music produced percussive primal sound with dark ambients, a solid of two individuals with Intense dynamic of heavy ancient beats.

Somewhere between Brazil and the Netherlands, improviser-songwriter Gabriel de Oliveira sings imaginative anti-pop for global generations. From within collective KB_, they have assembled Saturno Santos’ Something: a radiant ensemble, both indie and avant-garde, with local and immigrant members converging in Amsterdam. In trio with bassist Zenzele Mthembu-Salter and drummer Niels Luteijn, they cast popular traditions such as Brazilian maracatu, Caribbean bouyon and Zulu maskandi – and a handful of questions – into a visceral urban ritual.

KB_ is an Amsterdam independent collective focused on nourishing new globalized scenes involving immigrating, queer and avant-garde artists. Past events have featured special guests such as Wendy Eisenberg, Oruã, and Fuensanta. For this edition, they pair Indonesian relentless duo KUNTARI and their very own anti-pop ensemble SSS into a night of explosive rhythm and song.
