klub krai presents an event trilogy: 3 events, 3 locations, 3 timeframes
the series investigates different modes of gathering around music and how varying elements can influence this experience. the time of day, the season, the weather, the architecture, the location, the neighborhood. moving beyond night-time club events, these events take place during the day or in the evening/early night. exploring new ways of being together.
for the first edition of this series, klub krai strikes down at garage noord. presenting a line up of international artists as well as local legends.
an outside terrace, a hot meal, sudokus, tea and a special musical line up, spend a sunday celebrating spring with each other and klub krai.
allowing the light to come in through the windowpanes of the glasshouse, klub krai utilizes garage’s club space in an unexpected way, staging the event in garage’s ‘kas’’. providing crystal clear sound for detailed listening, addit audio’s iconic organically shaped horns are spread throughout the space. and furthering our longstanding collaboration, smokeshow will once again be providing additional light and scenography to the event.
the series of events is made possible with the support of the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts).
Lauren Duffus (live):
It all started during lockdown in 2020, when Duffus began experimenting with production software and a minimal home set-up. After a string of lo-fi yet cinematic self-releases on Soundcloud, she was taken under the wing of NTS, enrolling in their coveted artist development scheme. Since then, she’s released with beloved underground labels like AD93, performed across the world, and has been championed by artists including Benji B and The Avalanches.
Often made in the early hours of the night, Duffus’ tracks have an intimate after-dark quality – equal parts mellow and unsettling. The nocturnal mood makes sense; she cites Oneohtrix Point Never and her early interest in witch house artists like Salem and Crystal Castles as influences. References aside, her uncanny production style – mutating synths embellished by poignant keys and understated yet mellifluous vocals – feels distinctively her own.
Madjestic Kasual:
Internet tastemaker whose sure-handed touch has seen him wield piston-powered club weapons, wistful singer-songwriting, and downtempo swayers with equal dexterity.
As a frequent performer on klub krai line-ups, Mel Keane has been on our minds since the very
beginnings. Mel Keane is a composer, visual artist, and designer from Dublin, Ireland.
With his most recent release PIPEWORX on Deardogs, the timing seems perfect for Mel Keane to perform a DJ set during our listening session.
ru-ga:
Interested in the way music’s potential to influence our bodies and bring people together, ru-ga
performs DJ sets in club and ambient settings, does radio shows and DJs for co-created moving
experience The Pulse. Cycling through the fringes of bass, deep ambient, and beyond, she plays
with emotions, crafting playful contrasts— a cute fever dream story.
Celeb:
Long time collaborator and friend, Celeb is a visual artist, DJ, organizer and founder of
Smokeshow, a lighting design and events project. For this listening session, he’ll dive into his
extensive library of high fidelity ambient and downtempo, taking you on a journey of club
memories.
krai:
krai is the musical duo formed by klub krai founders paulina & jesse. their first release ‘krai tot krai’ in 2021 includes ambient analog instrumentals with electronics and contemplative singing. in their dj-sets krai blends nostalgia with joyful euphoria, mixing hyperpop, cloud-rap, ambient and experimental electronic music. For this occasion they’ll be performing a hybrid set, blending both existing and familiar sound with live improvisations.
