Jenny Hval bursts through all genre boundaries. At cutting-edge festivals like Rewire and Le Guess Who? she commanded full houses with her mix of experimental pop, spoken word, electronica and soundscapes. Now, she’s drawing from her latest album, Iris Silver Mist (4AD), featuring music from her interdisciplinary performance I Want to Be a Machine.
Though Jenny Hval is primarily known as a singer, she is also a writer. Her work, spanning from poetic lyrics to surreal, philosophical novels, grapples with themes like gender, sexuality and identity. She relentlessly challenges conventions by weaving together art, literature and music, earning her the moniker ‘Norwegian polymath’ from music magazine OOR.
