Subbacultcha Fall/Winter Highlights
FeaturesGetting dark early would have probably been depressing, had we had nothing to look forward to in the later hours
Amsterdam’s very own South of North label has been charting its own trajectory for a few years now, after kicking off its discography with Ronald Langestraat’s incomparable piece of lo-fi cosmic lounge jazz, ‘Searching’. It proved to be a loud cry for musical mavericks of all sizes, and since then the label has become a home for outside-the-box producers and their musical dreams, such as CV Vision’s psych-synth creations, Nicolini’s bass-inspired wave and Devon Rexi, the versatile experiments of Lyckle de Jong, and much more.
For this evening in Paradiso, South of North is happy to present a selection of new and original music. Dutch/Czech trio Maria, consisting of Lyckle de Jong, Katerina Konarovska and Bjorn Barendse, deliver their dreamy, wide-eyed pop revelations as a preview of their upcoming ‘Best Of’ collection. Kim David Bots has just released the album “Oostwestkruisbest”, on which, through its abstract view, time is stretched like a rubber band. To top it all off, Lyckle will be joined by artists Gijsje Heemskerk and Renée van Trier to present their upcoming 7” of cross-genre healing and sweetly distorted synthetic frequencies – supported by Kim for this occasion.
Sadly there are no more member spots available. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
