For American composers and longtime friends Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon and David Lang, teaming up has been the key to mesmerizingly enthralling projects. Over the past 27 years they have been redefining contemporary classical music with their multi-faceted NYC-based organization Bang on Can, building a world in which powerful new musical ideas flow freely across all genres and borders.
After their collaborations The Carbon Copy Building and Lost Objects, they created Shelter together with film director Bill Morrison. Inspired by the aesthetic beauty of blueprints, the rituals of coming home and the destructive forces of nature that can put everything at stake, it’s a grand multimedia oratorio, specially written for the sopranos of Trio Mediaeval, featuring a large mixed ensemble.
