Extra Extra’s Online Programme

Flip through the pages (that smell…) and drift off in a reverie. Extra Extra can get the job done as no other. Extra Extra is a multidisciplinary platform, exploring eroticism and living in the city. They can probably describe it best themselves: “our online platform, biennial print magazine, temporary project and live events celebrate mundane and sensual city life. Featuring commissioned essays, new works, short stories and in-depth conversations between creative minds of all disciplines.”

So, with all that heat still trapped between skyscrapers and other colossal concrete architecture, we would like to introduce you to a part of Extra Extra’s online itinerary of projects, delving into the concept of sensuality through listening and reflecting on city life in transitions. Scroll down and tune in. Either to refresh a bit, or to get that thermometer up to feverish heights.

Audio Works

Mercedes Azpilicueta, Eglė Budvytytė, Christian Nyampeta and Geo Wyeth were asked to create digital auditory works, reflecting on what eroticism entails today. Each of the artists reflects on the theme of sensuality. Some expressing their own personal histories, via more recent observations and experiences or reflections from the imaginary. Imagined dialogues about embracing a life with fearless flair, sensuous-city-soundscapes, investigations of dirt in relation to sensuality and much more. Find all projects here.

Extra Extra Radio

Writer Dan Fox and performance artist Michael Portnoy wrote a script that dances around the tropes of a radio show (you know, the ‘classic’ ones you hear in the car) interweaved with sounds and music selected by Loes Verstappen. “A late night DJ in an undefined city listens to the stories of phone-in callers sharing their specialist fetishes. Studio guests recounting unexpected experiences of the city are followed by yoga exercises, a weather forecast and pillow talk, no touching permitted.” Listen here on NTS Radio.

Erotic Short Stories

Extra Extra also presents a series of short auditory erotic stories, written by Karin Amatmoekrim, Gerbrand Bakker, Persis Bekkering, Don Duyns and Daniël Vis. You might know some of these stories from their written form, published in Extra Extra Magazine. Know you can sit back, relax and have them glide in your ear and minds, narrated by actor Thomas Dudkiewicz. These shorts are part of an ongoing series. Listen here!
