Gerrit Rietveld Academy

For the fourth instalment of our Collectibles series we invited eight graduate students to create a postcard. This bundle features four contributions of (almost former!) students of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. We made the selection, independently, across different disciplines. And, well, we wanted to highlight them just one more time before their graduation show. Without further ado:

Alice Peach

For her graduation Alice Peach created a series of small ceramic cars, a long hanging pole of lathe-turned wooden beads, a textile piece and more. Alice: “The objects are quite frail; some are less abstract than others; some are burnt, others are dusty, few are shiny; all hold the intention to move, though most of them don’t.” Alice graduates in TXT (textile).

Karin Iturralde

Karin Iturralde has naturally been drawn to inhabitation of public spaces. This pull was found when she moved within European countries in an attempt to find moments of leisure and to open-up spaces of enjoyment, play, freedom or unexpected intimacy in these (sometimes more, and sometimes less) normed environments. Karin graduates in Fine Arts.

Simon Marsiglia

Simon Marsiglia is a maker of wearable sculptures. Blurring lines between jewelry, sculpture and fashion, with an interest in ‘the personal’ and in fantasy. Simon is currently in the process of creating his own parallel world. Learn some more about Simon’s work here. Simon graduates in DesignLAB.

Melle van Herwaarden

Melle van Herwaarden is a figurative painter with an interest in material research. Melle explores how touch and color can both change and create specific atmospheres. Melle: “My eye is caught by concrete moments, ideas and sources that influence and inspire my work.” Melle graduates in VAV (moving image).
