Astrid Florentinus

astrid florentinus kimland

This August we host a new exhibition in the Subbacultcha! project space for artist and illustrator Astrid Florentinus (1987). As you might remember, back in March it was Astrid’s drawing that was featured on ‘The Sound of the Dutch Underground’ posters, flyers and that convenient tote bag that you now nonchalantly carry everywhere you go.

The exhibition coincides with the release of Astrid’s new booklet, Kimland. It’s a short graphic story about how she sets out with her friend to find Kim, who turns out to be even greater than they could have ever imagined. Despite the sketchy appearance of Astrid’s drawings, they are actually highly detailed and every streak and line is very deliberately applied.

The booklet was printed at Knust/Extrapool, an experimental graphic workspace in Nijmegen. They make and publish booklets and art in the rough style that comes hand in hand with the risograph machines that line their workspace. It is this simple, tactile approach that perfectly compliments the raw quality of Florentinus’ drawings.

Buy it here.

The opening will be on August 2, from 17.30 till 21.00pm. There will be some nice foods, holiday themed music by Vakantie, and beer will be provided by Warsteiner. RSVP only. Wanna come? Please send us an e-mail.
