Subbacultcha Fall/Winter Highlights
FeaturesGetting dark early would have probably been depressing, had we had nothing to look forward to in the later hours
As Amen Dunes, Damon McMahon’s collection ranges from the druggy and claustrophobic to the beautiful, benumbing lo-fi pop. He’s got two forthcoming releases in 2013, so expect more fleshed out skeletons and compiled experiments. Start your night off spellbound by Amsterdam-based Fetter’s bewitching electro-folk and Wouter Venema’s fragmented visual narratives.
Attend event:
Damon McMahon’s first album under the moniker Amen Dunes, a druggy and claustrophobic collection meant for McMahon’s ears alone, was recorded in a cabin and then promptly shelved. He then moved to Beijing for a few years and basically stopped making music. Those early recordings were finally released in 2009 and were well-received enough to inspire him to return to the US and form a band. The full-length that resulted, Through Donkey Jaw, found the skeletons of ideas from his debut fleshing out into beautiful, benumbing lo-fi pop, while his new Spoiler LP compiles experiments recorded over the last few years.
