The Soft Moon – Zeros

The Soft Moon – Zeros (Captured Tracks)

Oakland’s Luis Vasquez recorded his 2010 self-titled debut as The Soft Moon alone in his apartment, creating a post-apunkalyptic wasteland filled with claustrophobia and darkwave dread. Though it wasn’t originally intended for others’ ears, it turns out this wasteland had quite some tourist appeal, leading Vasquez to take his show on the road with a full band. Its follow-up, Zeros, again shaped by Vasquez alone, represents one small step for Vasquez, one giant leap for mankind: though stylistically similar to the debut, its greater sonic variety and sharper focus seem destined for sharing in a communal setting. If the end of the world is indeed nigh, moving to The Soft Moon is the perfect plan.
