Tales of the Future: Escape from New York (1981)

Eye on Sound has created Tales of the Future, a program centred on the influence of the synthesiser on sound design and composition in film. The 80’s classic casts Kurt Russell as the hero of a devastated, dystopian New York. His task? Trying to free the president from the hands of criminal gangs. The dark soundtrack is a powerhouse of electronic fluidity – think spacey synth and ominous chords – produced by the film’s director himself, John Carpenter.
