The Space Lady

16 September

If you’d see her playing on the street, you’d think she was a busker of the freaky kind, but that’s where you’d be surprised. Susan was born in the city of lost souls, and being lost, helped her find a dilapidated old accordion in a junk store, which turned her life around. The accordion was eventually retired in favour of the very first battery keyboard, a Casiotone MT-40 – a toy by today’s standards. Nowadays she specialises in Casio-driven tunes amplified through phase-shifters, her voice is miced through an echo unit, all accompanied by her tip-box light show. She arranges songs with other-worldly themes, such as ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’ and ‘Major Tom’. Taken altogether, it’s a life-affirming experience.
