Laraaji Presents The Peace Garden

In collaboration with our Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ friends The Rest Is Noise, we have the honor to present cosmic new age music guru and zither virtuoso. The story goes that in 1979 Laraaji was playing zither in Washington Square Park, eyes closed as he was deeply immersed in his purpose, when Brian Eno walked by. Fascinated by what he heard but polite enough not to disturb, Eno dropped a note in Laraaji’s zither case that read: “Dear Sir, please pardon this scraggly piece of paper, but I wonder if you would consider participating in a recording project I’m launching.” The following year Laraaji’s first album Ambient 3: Day of Radiance was released, produced by Brian Eno as the third part to his own Ambient series. The disclosure has led to what’s become a hefty stash of ambient and cosmic music, supplying meditation groups and other listeners alike with what’s described as ‘music of the now’. These days the pioneering new age musician uses iPad apps to add multiple discordant layers to the cosmic and ambient sounds, reflective of our modern age.
