Film: Station to Station

Our unconventional music documentary series continues with a film by American multimedia artist Doug Aitken.

Station to Station is an experimental feature length film that chronicles a 3-week creative journey, more specifically a cross-country rail trip across the US. Aitken got his hands on a nine-car train, filled it up with visual artists and musicians, covered it in screens and panels and had it looking like a light installation. Every time the train stopped, a stage was set up for performances, happenings, live shows and pop-up art installations. Crazy, right? Aitken wanted to make art that is simultaneously physical and virtual, local and global.

The film itself is made up of 62 one-minute films. Think of it as a super fast-paced exploration of creativity featuring artists like Dan Deacon, Ariel Pink, Destruction Unit, Savages, and more.
