Lucrecia Dalt’s music is delicate, like surface tension. It’s beautiful and if you keep yourself small, and don’t move too much, you’ll be able to skate elegantly across the water. But move too sudden, or lose your patience, and you’ll inevitably drown. Dalt’s music requires undivided attention. Only if you manage to keep up, are there rewards to be found in still corners of her compositions. There are structures to be discovered in the quiet, separated notes and huge glacial terrains to be explored in timbre and repetition. Forget instant gratification, this is the kind of joy that requires time and effort.
