We’re Looking for Interns

Know what Subbacultcha is all about and want to get more involved? We’ve got two internship positions opening up. One in Online Editorial, the other in Graphic Design.

  • All our internships are part-time positions for a period of at least 3 months.
  • Interns are required to work 3 full days per week (we are flexible though, so there’ll be ample room to adjust to your scheduling needs)
  • you should have access to a laptop and, preferably, a smartphone

Online Editorial Intern

We’re looking for an aspiring writer with a passion for new music, art and film, as well as a familiarity with the artists we cover, excellent research skills, and experience with web and social media to boost our Online Editorial Team.

As our Online Editorial Intern, you’ll be assisting in all aspects of the site’s editorial process. More specifically, you’ll be tasked with discovering and covering exciting new music, art and film, and keeping our site up-to-date and flush with relevant content. You’ll also assist in promoting of all of our events, managing our communications channels and social media presence.

The Editorial Internship is a part-time position for a period of at least 3 months. Editorial interns are required to work 3 full days per week. Editorial Interns should also have access to a laptop and a smartphone.

Requirements:

– Availability as soon as possible, for a minimum of three months
– Media- and/or communications-related BA or MA.
– Fluency  and proficient writing skills in English.
– Your own laptop & smartphone

Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter with writing samples in an email to maija@subbacultcha.nl with the subject line ‘SubbaEdit’ before Friday, 9 March. Please include a brief description of your musical tastes in the cover letter, be it a selection of your favorite artists or albums of late, or acts you think we should feature. The writing sample should be a paragraph about a band of your choice, not unlike the write-ups in the Subbacultcha website.

Graphic Design Internship:

Subbacultcha is an independent platform devoted to new music. We produce an unruly, quarterly magazine and bring the best emerging artists to alternative stages in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. We Are Public is a cultural membership supporting the arts and giving free access to the to selection of culture within the city. We’re looking for a smart, skilled and savvy graphic design intern to work for both platform

Requirements:

– Availability as soon as possible, for a minimum of three months
– Strong Adobe skills (mainly Photoshop and Indesign). Video and editing skills are a very big plus.
– Fluency in Dutch and in English
– Your own laptop & smartphone

What we offer:

-You’ll be part of two different teams (Subbacultcha and We Are Public)
-You’ll be working on all visual on- and offline promotion. Think social media-posts, news letters, headers, banners, flyers, editorial features, posters, press kits… you name it.
-With both teams, we organise and host in-house events & shows. This gives you insights on how to transform ideas into actual events, including communication and promotion.

You will be working from 1-2 days per week under the guidance of experienced designers in our spacious office in De School. There’s lunch, fruit, coffee, beer and Fritz, plus we’ve got our own venue, s105. Exciting times : )
