Ty Segall – Manipulator

Ty Segall – Manipulator (Drag City)

Having moved to LA prior to releasing 2013’s Sleeper, garage-rock demigod Ty Segall is now becoming a fixture of the burgeoning scene in the city’s Eagle Rock neighborhood, where various other mainstays of San Francisco’s garage/psych scene have also relocated, including friends like John Dwyer, White Fence and Mikal Cronin. Settled into his new digs and perhaps inspired by the extra pocket money that comes with moving to a much cheaper place, Segall challenged himself to make ‘something like back in the day, when they had a ton of money, like a glam rock album. Let’s try and pull out all the stops.’ And pull out all the stops he did, writing more songs, doing more takes and sprucing up his usual lo-fi production *just* enough to yield his most ambitious, sprawling and perhaps best album yet.
