London-via-Shanghai producer Organ Tapes (a.k.a. Tim Zha) is a hard one to pin down. Never content to stick with a single sound, his music traverses incredibly diverse territory betraying both a keen melodic sensibility and a nose for abstract, sometimes abrasive experimentation – occasionally all within the same song :O . The current musical climate is such that maintaining a consistent sound from album to abum is more often than not equated with artistic suicide, leading in many cases to painfully contrived artistic ‘development’ and aimless attempts at avoiding apparent stagnation. No such issue for OT, whose relatively small back catalogue skirts effortlessly from bittersweet laptop R&B (‘Thick’) to found sound pastiche (‘Corona Xtra 2014 Blanc Cartridg’) to vaporous, bass-y futurepop (‘Found God’), and that’s not to mention his earlier (equally essential) guitar-based material. Check out said tunes below and start getting hyped for upcoming album De Forma, out sometime this year.
