Amen Dunes

23 May

Damon McMahon has long been making beautiful, benumbing lo-fi pop. Now, with a little help from members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and influences ranging from Alice Coltrane to Van Morrison, his 2014 LP Love looks to be his most ambitious work yet.

Attend event:

Damon McMahon’s first album under the moniker Amen Dunes, a druggy and claustrophobic collection meant for McMahon’s ears alone, was recorded in a cabin and then promptly shelved. He then moved to Beijing for a few years and basically stopped making music. Those early recordings were finally released in 2009 and were well-received enough to inspire him to return to the US and form a band. The full-length that resulted, Through Donkey Jaw, found the skeletons of ideas from his debut fleshing out into beautiful, benumbing lo-fi pop, while its follow-up Spoiler compiled experiments recorded over the following years. With a little help from members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and influences ranging from Alice Coltrane to Van Morrison, 2014 LP Love looks to be his most ambitious work yet – especially if first cut ‘Lonely Richard’ is anything to go by.

Eerie Wanda is the solo project of Marina Tadic, guitarist-vocalist from Amsterdam psychedelics Earth Mk. II. Her bedroom recordings have developed into a new project with a full band and a debut in the pipeline.
