If you want to be taken seriously in the world of post-classical, experimental electronic music, it helps to have some highbrow stripes. Ben Frost, director-composer, protégé of Brian Eno and purveyor of numerous film soundtracks as well as an opera, isn’t doing too badly for himself. The native Australian long ago relocated to Reykjavík, and since the inception of the Bedroom Community label/collective, he’s been as consistently highly acclaimed as he is prolific. 2014 sees the release of his latest full-length A U R O R A, which promises to be as tense and evocative as his previous work. If Ben Frost is electronic music future, it’s appropriate that Japanese trio Nisennenmondai in many ways represent its long past. Shades of krautrock, post-punk and industrial weave through their dense maelstroms of guitar, percussion and samples for a simmering mass of dextrously referenced noise. Luc Mast from Amsterdam collective (and Somewhere Else staples) Malawi will also be playing.
