Vertical Scratchers + Bed Rugs

2 May

The pairing of founding member of Enon and guitarist for Caribou and Brainiac John Schmersal with Triclops guitarist and Mike Watt collaborator Christian Beaulieu means a hefty and eclectic set of indie stripes (which, as we all know, run horizontally).

John Schmersal is a man with fingers in many indie pies. Founding member of Enon, Brainiac guitarist and touring member of Caribou, he’s truly earned his indie stripes (which, as we all know, run horizontally). With a back catalogue consistent only in its oddity, it took Christian Beaulieu, the other half of Vertical Scratchers and previously Triclops guitarist and Mike Watt collaborator, to squeeze his alien eclecticism into palatable alt-pop shapes, albeit bitesize ones. The resultant album, Daughter of Everything, has earned high praise from the blogosphere for its attention deficit auditory tomfoolery, and looks to propel both onward to greater things. Baby-voiced Antwerp four-piece Bed Rugs share a palatable indie pop aesthetic, together with a penchant for micro-songs.
