She’s undoubtedly surrounded by R&B futurist peers, but as one of the few artists deserving of the overused epithet ‘ethereal’, FKA Twigs’ twisted vocals and her particularly striking combination of sensuality and cold alienness make her a compulsively and uniquely thrilling proposition. Young Dutch beatmaker on the scene Torus will get the crowd in the mood with his beautiful, glacial hip-hop-tinged electronica.

Just when you’d think the whole ethereal R&B trend would die down, another artist comes along and finds way to push the sexiest of genres into fascinating new directions. Case in point: London-based singer/producer Tahliah Barnett, AKA FKA twigs. After growing up in a small town in the English countryside, Barnett moved to London with the intention of becoming a dancer, but quickly decided to shift her focus to singing. The sexy but slightly creepy take on R&B displayed on her Arca-produced breakout EP, last year’s EP2, calls to mind classic trip hop artists such as Massive Attack as well as contemporaries like Banks and How to Dress Well. Barnett herself is as strangely beautiful and captivating as her music, with her huge lips and eyes, gapped teeth, unusual personal style, and graceful dance moves thanks to all those years of training. If her recent live performance captured by Yours Truly is any indication, this show should be absolutely spellbinding.

It’s taken us forever and a day to make this happen, but we’re delighted to confirm that young Dutch beatmaker on the scene Torus will get the crowd in the mood with his beautiful, glacial hip-hop-tinged electronica. Having already deservedly swooped up acclaim from the likes of FACT, Mixmag and The Guardian – to name but a few – for his first two Sonic Router EPs, Torus now turns to his decks to send you floating to FKA Twigs on clouds of ethereal bliss.
