Trust

6 February

Though its music scene is diverse and lively with Crystal Castles, Austra and now Trust, Toronto seems to have cornered the market on crossover-capable gothy synth pop. The latter, Robert Alfons’s solo project, avoids the aggressiveness and operatic indulgences of fellow Torontonians. Rather, Trust’s brand of ’80s-channelling dance music is incontrovertibly introverted and gloriously gloomy. Just because debut full-length, TRST, which came out earlier this year, leaves the ‘U out, doesn’t mean you should feel left out: it goes as well with a druggy dancefloor as it does with moping on your own.
